FAQ
Short, standalone answers, from the basics to practical matters. Where it's easy to get things wrong, we point out what to check and where.
Basic questions
Is this the website of the Donmotor car center?
No. This is an independent car owner's guide; an auto repair shop's website used to be at this address, but this project is not affiliated with it. We do not book appointments, repair cars or sell parts.
What does 5W-30 on the bottle mean?
It is the SAE J300 viscosity grade: the number with the "W" is the winter (low-temperature) grade, the second number is the high-temperature viscosity. The grade your engine needs is listed in the manual.
Why change brake fluid if the level is fine?
It is hygroscopic: over time it absorbs moisture and its performance degrades. That is why it is replaced on schedule, not based on the level.
Practical questions
My check engine light came on. Can I keep driving?
If the light is steady and the car drives normally, you can usually make it to a shop. If it is flashing, or the car is jerking or losing power, ease off and see a professional as soon as possible. Codes are read with a scanner through the diagnostic port.
Can I remove the catalytic converter?
It is a modification that affects the car's emissions class. It can mean the car no longer meets requirements and cause problems at inspection, during diagnostics and at resale. Check the requirements with official sources where you live.
Do I have to get my car serviced at the dealer?
Warranty conditions are set by the manufacturer or seller and are described in the warranty documents. Wherever you go, what matters is following the schedule and keeping your repair orders.
Where can I find change intervals and fluid capacities?
Only in your vehicle's owner's manual and maintenance schedule. There are no universal numbers for all models, so we do not publish any.
